Shiloh breeders and owners work this versatile, intelligent breed in a variety of
venues including herding, obedience, agility, search and rescue, therapy, and
other service roles.
Our primary focus since entering the world of Shilohs has been Conformation, and
we show a lot, typically 15-20 weekends each year. Conformation/breed shows were
originally established to test the best of a breed against the breed standard.
As you can see, *The Arties* have done well against some pretty tough competition.
Caly with a Best of Opposite Sex and Bismarck with a Best In Show at the Rarities/NAKC Year End Super Show.
While *The Arties* are, and will forever be, our soul mates and companions, showing
has opened a vista that has turned out to be fun, exciting, and brought us into
contact with many outstanding fanciers. It started innocently enough, visiting a
rare breed show when we were first researching the breed. Then Bismarck came along,
Traci took a few handling classes, and we were off to the shows. At the first show,
with help from friends, Biz took a Winner's Dog. At the second show, a professional
handler and breeder, who has since become a close friend and advisor, needed
someone to handle a dog, saw Gary at ringside, threw him the lead with the succinct
advice "Hang on!". The dog, was Bismarck's sister/littermate, the fantastic
Kachina of Tantara Shilohs, who took Best Opposite. The show bug bit, and each
of *The Arties*, has been an outstanding representative of the breed over the years.
Showing for us goes far beyond the competition for Best of Breed. Showing has brought
us into contact with owners, breeders, and handlers across the spectrum of rare breeds,
constantly improving our knowledge of dogs in the many facets of conformation points,
breeding, temperament, training, nutrition and handling. Along the way we've made
acquaintances with many of the outstanding personalities and dogs in the world of rare breeds.
*The Arties* show in Rarities/NAKC, the American Rare Breed Association (ARBA) and on
occasion special events conducted by the NCA, NKC, and AKC. All are Registry (TSSR) Breed
and International (NAKC) Champions. They are following in the paw prints of their
many notable ancestors.
Come share the excitement and thrill of their success.
As always we're here to answer your questions and field your comments. Feel free to contact
